Got to come back to CS for a couple nights this week for work. Saw this and had the same reaction. They come up with stupid ways to spend tax dollars. And my God I didn't think they could possibly add more medians and stop lights.

I wish I was omniscient and knew who in our city leadership had ties to a water tower painting company.

Last weekend I was driving on Foster between Lincoln and George Bush East. Passed behind the city hall parking lot and actually saw people at the Instagram prop!!!!
They had climbed on top of it. I guess they didn't heart Aggieland but wanted a photo anyway.
First time I've seen someone use it.

Maybe people can take Instagram photos with it in the background.

I gotta say I can remember when they built it and wondered why the hell they are building this tower out in the middle of nowhere. There wasn't a divided highway then
5:18p, 2/17/24
We have to keep up the "home/ birthplace of A&M/ Aggieland" turf war going somehow!!
Bryan has 2-3 new signs going in, likely have some mention of Aggieland.
Boasting ain't free!

The best part of that image is that the water tower itself is on it.

Can we get that council back?
They showed great foresight.

The water tower is getting sandblasted and recoated as preventive maintenance. It's necessary to keep the infrastructure that delivers YOUR drinking water in good condition. The last time this was done was over 20 years ago.
Regarding selection of the painting company, you can look at the supporting documentation for the city council agenda item from 12/11/23 and see all the bids.
Here is a link to a video describing how water towers work, if any of you are "curious, not judgmental." https://vimeopro.com/texasawwa/watergeek-videos/video/576817067 You'll see that there are water towers shaped like watermelons or tea kettles or even bottles of ketchup.

Listen - I know some people don't like the color of the Rock Prairie water tower. Keep complaining about the Fitch tower and I will tell the Powers That Be to paint the whole thing to match!aggiepaintrain said:

Oh snap, waterchick holds THE POWER
I loved watching the painting process of the new one so this one should be fun, too.

Not sure who you are but thank you for showing up. It always takes guts to wade into the poop around here.
Honest question though. Did it actually NEED to be done or could this have waited? Visually, it didn't look like there was anything wrong with the existing finish.

I didn't inspect the water tower myself, but I know it was inspected prior to this by people who know what to look for. It "looks fine" while you're stopped at the light on Fitch/6. From that distance you don't see the condition of the coating. A professional inspecting closer sees what the person driving past doesn't see.
I am THE Water Chick. (Water Services staff.) Thanks for the kind words. TexAgs is a tough crowd.CS78 said:waterchick said:
