Xmas is already on the shelf? I knew the last shipment of Oktober is out, but damn. (Unless its still leftover somehow from Xmas in July)

Christmas Ale is my favorite SA brew, but yeah, it does feel a little early. I think I still have one left over from the summer.

punkin ale (dogfish) or post road pumpkin (brooklyn). those are my two favorite pumpkin brews, and that doesn't change after trying st a's offering.
I don't know about post road pumpkin, but punkin ale, along with most pumpkin beers, are just basically pale ales with pumpkin flavor.
The SA pumpkinator is an imperial pumpkin stout, so they are really completely different beers.. kinda hard to compare a pale ale to a stout.

I'm still looking to score some pumpkinator. Wasn't able to go hunt it down yesterday. If anyone comes across some please let me know where you got it. Thanks!

If you're in the city, Whole Foods in Montrose (right off Dallas) just sold out of their first shipment. The woman in front of me got the last one. Says they'll have more later today. You have to go to the bar to get them, not the beer aisle.
Left there and went to Kroger in Montrose. They had about 15 bottles lined up right at the front near the registers. I grabbed two there.
This was all approximately 30-45 minutes ago.

Bunker Hill HEB has tons of Christmas Ale out.

Good move. I bought a case when they came out with it in July. It just didn't go well with the hot weather. I really wish they would sell their beer in season.

Rockwell just posted yesterday they got a keg of the pumpkinator.. Guess I'll have to get a pint tonight I haven't had it in a while. I think I actually may still have a bottle or 2 of the DR of it in the fridge.
5:00p, 10/16/11
last night I had a pint of pumpkinator, pint of karbach double ipa, and a bottle of the independence 'oklahoma sucks' amber. Inside source says the pumpkinator batch is a bit different than DR9, and that it only clocked in about 9ish%. I could tell, did a side by side there in the bar, it wasn't as alcoholy as the bottle. (Although the alcohol should become more subtle on a bottle aged as old as DR9.. so probably just my mind being tricked. But I remember having DR9 on tap, and it was too upfront for me.) I was more enjoyable IMO.
the IIPA was great.. right up my alley.

Not like southern star sittin on 3 brews for a couple years now.
Eric said he had some more old S.A. tanks coming his way, so he surely has the room.

With this cool front, I decided today would be a good day to pick up the Sam Adams Harvest Collection case.
2 bottles of each of the following:
-Boston Lager
-Harvest Pumpkin Ale
-Bonfire Rauchbier
-Octoberfest
-Irish Red
-Black Lager

I got the Sam Adams Harvest Fest last night, also picked up a 12 of 'Noche Buena', a Mexican Christmas brew. Did some research on it, it's a limited release in only Texas and the Chicago area, has anyone tried it? Never heard of it before.
Also, going to do the Karbach brewery tour tomorrow after work if anyone wants to join.

kind of a lackluster selection of other bombers i was wanting to try at the Kirkwood Specs.
Didnt get anything else new or special, just another sixer of Saint A Oktoberfest since they still had some.

something I just noticed, black caps..... first time they didn't use their standard reds?

jetch -
our specs has really stepped up their bomber selection over the past few months. Lots of Avery, Clown Shoes, New Belgium, and many others.

Gabbed a sixer of Santo this afternoon at the Wirt/Bingle Specs.
Said they only received 5 cases. Sounds like a very limited release to start the rollout. There may have been 2-3 cases left when I left.

I love SA and am looking forward to trying Santo but I kind of get the feeling this is a 'jump the shark' type moment for the brewery. They are releasing it with a completely new/different packaging design and it was pretty clear from the delayed release & "tasting vote" that they didn't have a defined vision about what this beer was supposed to be or taste like. Are they are just chucking stuff out on the market these days because whatever they put out there sells like crazy? /couldbewrong
9:08p, 10/20/11
well after trying some Santo, i say im on the fence. It IS tasty, very dark and heavy looking in color, but goes down smooth and light. Its similar in taste to lawnmowerstarting off a little with an aftertaste kind of like winter stout, but doesnt leave an ass-taste in your mouth like WS does.
Dont really see it as my go-to on a hot day, but its a decent addition.
ill have to try a couple more to form a better opinion.
