Cracked open a Stone IPA and a Green Flash West Coast IPA at the same time this weekend.
Wanted to do a side by side taste test.
West Coast IPA kicked Stone's tail. It wasn't even close.
I've never had Pliny before, but West Coast IPA is the best beer I've ever had. Funny how two years ago I couldn't drink it because I wasn't yet a hophead.

Alaskan Brewing Co. is now at the Hay Merchant. I know nothing about them but it's nice to see a new brewery enter the Texas market.

haven't had alaskan brews since alaskan cruise. Would def. seek out though. amber and pale are great for easy drinking.
I see their spring seasonal is a black IPA. would like to try that

I had 2 bottles of it last year.
Honestly I was not impressed with it.
Part of that may be the fact that I don't drink much wine. If you like red wine, you'll probably enjoy it.

I've got family in town and I wanted to send them home with some of Houston's newest finest beer, but alas, I struck out at Specs in Sugar Land.
I had Buffalo Bayou's 1836 for the first time on Saturday night (actually I had about 5 of them). I've been preaching the word for Karbach for the last several months, but BB came out really strong with their first brew.

As good as the DR?
I still can't bring myself to buying a bomber of it. Wish they would have sixered it.

It is still very good. Like 62strat mentioned elsewhere, the DR release had a little stronger body, but many of the same flavors are still there in the bombers. Still a good DIPA, you'd dig it still Spad McHophead

Aite. I'll grab one next time I'm out.
But I will not use 2 tokens for it at the brewery (if the rumors I'm hearing are true)

giving the deschutes black butte porter a try tonight. pretty good stuff, feels like the good taste of a porter without being too heavy.

Not Houston, but I was up in Salt Lake skiing this weekend and had some pretty decent local brews: Squatters Provo Girl Pilsner and Wasatch 1st Amendment Lager.
