I'm spending the weekend in Napa. Anything in particular I should be on the lookout for in the People's Republick?

Those Mormons make good beer. I'm a fan of all of Wassachs and Squatters offerings

HEB in clear lake off el camino has karbach hop, rodeo clown, Weiss versa, and sympathy. Summers at the pool just got that much better. Southern star and karbach cans makes life easy.

Same with the one at Buffalo Speedway, although the display was a bit hidden behind the stand they use for tastings to the left of the cooler.

speaking of sheety new beers, whatever happened to that Bud Premium that advertised during the superbowl? I don't think I've seen it since then.

bud light platinum? I talked to a houston distributing employee, he said it's been their highest seller since it came out. (well after bud light of course, nothing ever sells as much as that)

I finally had a chance to try some of the Karbach offerings. The Sympathy Lager was great, and I found the Weisse Versa to be good for what it was. It's no Franziskaner, but it was a good effort. I wanted try Rodeo Clown, but the place was out.

just had a GD hercules bomber tonight while packing for my 6am flight to denver. That's a great beer.. hits you when you're about 75% finished.. great buzz off just that one bottle. Equivalent to 5.5 oz. of 80 proof liquor.

Having Collaboration not Litigation by Avery/RRB. Basically a blend of both their Salvation brews.

drank a few weisses...to be honest with a lemon they taste just like BJ's Brewhouses wheat beer.

which is weird since SA does the brewing for BJs...and I actually like weisse better than weedwacker.

It's a bjs recipe, not a SA recipe. SA just makes it, and actually, SA doesn't make much bjs beer anymore, Brock wanted the capacity for the large recent growth of his beer. I think they make the red and another one, pretty sure it's not the wheat.

So far on my "wine tasting" trip, I've been to Downtown Joe's in Napa. It's a brewpub with a good food menu and good beer brewed on site. I had a double IPA that was pretty good and a pale ale that was outstanding.

This afternoon we found a place that offered tasting flights of local beers and had the following:

Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat
North Coast Skrimshaw Pilsner
Mad River Jamaica Red Ale
Marin Point Reyes Porter
Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout

They were pretty good, but the stout was the best of the bunch.

I've been trying to track down some Pliny the Elder, but have struck out thus far. Whole Foods, World Market, and a handful of liquor and grocery stores that I've tried are all sold out.

Try Dean and Deluca in st Helena if you are up that way.

endevour is pretty dang good, very similar to rodeo clown.

so at $6.37 a bomber vs $9.98 a six pack, it's a no brainer.

We're heading up to Castello de Amorosa in the morning, so I'll try there on the way back. Do you have an opinion on Silverado Brewing? We're thinking about going there for lunch.

I've never tried their beers. But with so many great restaurants in the area, I would seek out a different lunch spot. D&D has great service so you might call tonight and ask what they have.

Any recs?

We're doing Fume Bistro tonight, and Bouchon tomorrow night (don't ask, not my idea).

Bouchon is awesome, I go there at least twice when I visit. If you like onion soup, order it as a starter. Trust me.

For lunch, look into Cook in downtown St Helena, although you may need reservations. Farmstead is good too, as is Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen. Also get some English muffins from Model Bakery...holy crap they are good.

I would not recommend Gott's Roadside for burgers. You can get better burgers in Texas. Some of their specialty sandwiches are good though. But I just like other restaurants better.

I've been the biggest cheerleader for Karbach lager for the last few months, but I had my first can last night and was disappointed. Maybe I should have used a glass. Maybe the next 5 will be better

Rodeo Clown comes in a 4 pack, but still a better deal than Endeavor
