2014 F150 5.0 90k miles. A few times here lately I've noticed almost some loping while driving, was worried it was a misfire but it doesn't feel quite like a misfire, not regular enough in the cadence. But I put a code reader on it and pulled the below. No misfires detected. This doesn't happen every time I drive. Intermittent. Recommendations on where I should start with this?

Car Scanner ELM OBD2

What the P0207 code means
  • The P0207 code is a common OBD2 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects out of range performance for the cylinder 7 fuel injector circuit.
  • P0207 is similar to and may be seen with P0200, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0205, P0206, and P0208 - P02012
  • Injector malfunction codes may trigger a lean condition, rich condition, and misfires.
What causes the P0207 code?
  • ECM has failed
  • Injector for cylinder 7 is bad
  • Shorted to power or open wiring harness for injector circuit
  • Electrical connection that is poor
What are the symptoms of the P0207 code?
  • Check Engine Light is triggered by the ECM and observed on the dashboard
  • Failsafe mode (precaution to prevent damage to the vehicle) is enacted by the ECM
  • Failsafe mode remains in effect until the circuit has performance that is within range or the fault is repaired
P0207 can have a variety of symptoms that may be felt before the Check Engine Light is seen on the dashboard such as:
  • Lack of power
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Misfire conditions
How does a mechanic diagnose the P0207 code?
  • Uses a scan tool to check for any codes stored in the ECM
  • Notes freeze frame data for all codes
  • Clears codes and performs a test drive under conditions from freeze frame data
  • Performs a visual inspection of all components in the injector circuit if P0207 code returns
  • Checks for voltage at the fuel injector with a multimeter
  • Installs a noid light to check the pulse width of the cylinder 7 injector
  • Uses a scan tool to check what the ECM reads for voltage at the fuel injector
  • Performs an ECM test
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0207 code
Mistakes are usually made when steps are not followed or completed in their entirety. These steps are done so that simple things are not missed and parts are not replaced when they are not the cause of the malfunction.
How serious is the P0207 code?
P0207 can cause some issues that are a cause for concern such as the engine running poorly or the engine stalling. With these symptoms, the vehicle should not be driven because it is unsafe until repairs are performed.
What repairs can fix the P0207 code?

I would start by checking the connection to the #7 injector.

next would be checking for power and ground to the injector.

After that, you would probably need a shop to diagnose if it is the ECM or the injector itself.
You could start throwing parts at it, but these are fairly pricey parts you are dealing with.

Boooooooo........ thanks though.

Well. I shined my flashlight on it and didn't see anything. That's about the extent of my electrical testing, not my Forte. I can pull and replace parts. Troubleshooting these problems I'm no good at. So.... to Brazos Valley Automotive again.

My call is a faulty #7 injector. Replacing is fairly involved, but can be done DIY if you are into such things.

But I think it is a good call to have it checked by a shop with scopes, etc to make sure. The rabbit hole can get long and expensive.

Someone with more knowledge than me (1ags?) can chime in if you can/should just replace one, all four on one side, or all 8.

I don't know if one starting to fail is a sign of more to come.

It didn't look that bad to access and replace the injectors. I would think that is at least cheaper than the ECM.

I think 90K is a reasonable life for a fuel injector, (maybe?).

So they weren't able to find anything. They couldn't replicate the problem and they said there were no codes. That's odd because I read the codes right before dropping it off. Only thing I can think is that I accidentally cleared them before dropping it off. Gonna pick it up and see if it does it again. What's odd is a check engine light never came on.

Everything you showed said inactive or pending. I don't think they activate the check engine light in that state.

Depending on how they checked, it might not show those codes.

Maybe some injector cleaner for the next couple of tanks.

i think i would run some cleaner through it. it could be fouled, or fouling.

if it is dying, i would wait until the code or symptoms return then see about maybe swapping the one out.
