I've been in almost this exact scenario twice, though both of them actually happened during the game and one of them the 'parents/family/fans' of the team from Mexico also ran on the field.
Cowell did the smart thing and sprinted away after the initial start, because they were looking to swarm him

It's crazy that this happened at this level of play though.

He waved goodbye to the Costa Rica team after the final whistle. When that happened the Ticos were so incensed that they went and attacked the US players.

Pretty stupid suspension if you ask me.

Not so sure. Concacaf is a clown show. If they are suspending him for his instigation thats crap but if they are suspending him for him defending himself it makes a little more sense but still. The whole CR team should be suspended for their involvement.

I'm seeing people online claim that they were at the game and saying "It's clear that the US started the fight." Which isn't supported from the video footage.

They're going to go Concacaf soon. Hope no one gets hurt. They're getting embarrassed in front of that large home crowd.

US has dominated every match this tournament.

Canada got extremely lucky to get the draw.
