Thought this site has some cool points for discussion. Opta Matchweek 1 Player Ratings
Top 5 players: Isak, Haaland, Rodri, Saka and Leno.

Also has interesting stat display for games if you want to geek out on that.

Other interesting pieces: 22-23 Best 11 in EPL Interesting to note City have 5 players, Arsenal had 2 (then bought 2, Rice & Reya). Kane is now in Germany.

One more: Top 5 players for each EPL team based on 22-23. Chelsea's stats are embarassingly bad.

I stumbled on all of this looking to compare Declan Rice to Caceido. He is rated much higher by Opta. I really don't think Caceido is worth as much as Rice but time will tell.

It's not quite EPL but this was too good not to share...

Isn't Mallaga the team that Steve Kerr and Steve Nash just bought?

Nevermind. It's Mallorca (with Graeme la seaux as well)

I tried making a thread for other Europe stuff, but no one bit and it's already off page 1.

I just found out my coworker who I talk soccer with is a Chelsea fan.

Should I shun him?

Reel him in slowly, make him feel like he is in a "soccer safe space" and then you can have many, many hours of joy by slowly, mercilessly poking at his team and their overspending ineptitude.

If you ever want to know why VAR is such trouble in England heres a clue. The referees are too big for their britches. Theyd rather let the wrong team win than suffer the "humiliation" of actually going back and getting a call right like cowards.

Its incompetence over and over again lol.

Man I'd love for them refs and umps to have to do media duties after games

Said it before and I'll say it again: Bundesliga does it right. VAR by committee from a centralized location from Koeln (Cologne). They become an entity rather than an individual: "The Cologne Cellar". One large windowless room with 6 separate 4-monitor workstations with 2 refs and 2 video operators each. They collectively monitor all the games on a matchday.

Strips away a lot of opportunities to collude and/or have personalities come into the equation. It's more effective and it's cheaper.

Is this correct?

Payroll for Chelsea: 148,200,200
Payroll for Luton Town: 4,934,000

13 players make more than Luton's total payroll.

Even at a 4 nil ass kicking, they're paying 36mm per goal.

Hard to get precise salaries. But Capology says they're at &5.8M… which is still insane. That's low even for Championship teams. So between the two sources, it's clear that they're at an extremely low wage bill.

Capology also has Chelsea higher at &157.9M

I'll also add that it's probably super wise for Luton's management to not try to take loans and splurge this year. Take the money earned and build something sustainable. They honestly had no business getting promoted at the stage they were at… good of them to not fly too close to the sun.

Its very smart imo. They're almost assuredly going back down. Take the money and slowly build to sustain success and then build for the trying to stay in the top flight.

fitness? agility? athleticism? technical ability? check, check, check, check.

might be a bit of a ball hog, probably won't pass it much, and lacks tactical awareness, but will chase after it relentlessly if he ever loses it.

added bonus: will never be called for a handball.

I think this is finally a good signing and worth the fee this time.

Well that just means he is going to not be played by the manager and will ultimately be sold for $20 MM only to score bangers for his new club.

That first goal for NFO was peak Antony. Guy makes the defensive run 3 yards behind Aywoni from the halfway line then pulls up and fades to the left so he can get an up close view of how to score a goal.

Bruno knew he wasn't getting to the ball so he runs into the NF defender and then gets a DOGSO straight red for the defender. Classic ManU 11v12 with that nice ref help.

Now at 10 v 12 the ref gives a joke PK for a Rashford dive. So stupid

That was a very clear red. Defender was beat and pulled Fernandez down. Don't let your anti-United anger cloud your ability to see.

Wolves GK with the save of the year against EVE. It may be MD3 but it will be the save of the year. Hell it will be the save of the decade.
