I know what the numbers say especially this last season. But Mitchell has the potential to be in the MVP race most years. I love DJ but he doesn't have the juice that Mitchell can bring. I think this trade reflects that. Most pundits I've heard were shocked at what the Spurs got for Murray.

Mitchell is a better scorer (26ppg/57% TS vs 21ppg/53% TS) but Murray is bigger, a better defender, better passer, and significantly better defender. DeJounte's Box+/- was 25% higher than Mitchell's, despite being on a much worse team.
Despite more time handling the ball, Murray had a lower turnover rate than Mitchell.
Plus Murray has a significantly better contract for the team.
