Astros had the 8 hardest hit balls in the game

Those 8 at bats results in two hits, and 7 total outs

A lot of at 'em balls tonight.

Again, **** happens. This team is back on track.

Shouldn't have even gone to extras. Bregs needs to pull his head from its firmly lodged placement in his rear end. He cannot keep popping **** up in the ****ing infield. ****!

I hate losing winnable games.

Having gotten that out....come back tomorrow ready to play, and let's take the series. Gotta uphill battle with Spaghetti on the mound.

unfortunately exit velocity requires a launch angle

and the second column shows the problem with the first column
W

also have to give a little bit of credit to the opposing pitcher for keeping the ball down

Except most of those are line drives not ground balls.

And not a single Alex Bregman was found on this list

Need to move Bregman down in the order.

There are no sacred cows. Abreu was just optioned to señor citizen camp because he wasn't producing, at all. Bregman isn't that much better and he's been batting 4th or higher all season long.

Quality start by JV, no runs given up by bullpen before the tenth, and can't score a measly 3rd run.

End the entitlement.

The org had a frank conversation with Abreu. Now's the time for one with Salsa Stables.

Bregman saw the year Tin Anderson had last year and said "hold my beer"

Maybe let Dubon play 3rd today and let Bregman sit and watch a game. We certainly have enough OFers on the squad to fill in for Dubon out there.

Once again

Bunt the gdamn runner over every time in extras….THIS IS T THAT ****ING DIFFICULT

The Astros haven't done that since the inception of the Manfred rule. It has literally cost them multiple games. Thus the 2-12 record over the past 2 seasons. It's a losing strategy that has to change. Reference definition of insanity.

I don't get why a reporter doesn't ask the question why they refuse to bunt a guy over. The answer will be "because analytics" but the immediate response is "the analytics has resulted in a 2/12 record in extras".

Bunting against Clase and that cutter???

Probably have a better chance at getting a bit than laying down a bunt against that nastiness.

I can't imagine squaring around against that guy.

The Reed Ryan days.

Ever since Crane pushed all those people out the roof never opens.

Be careful. Last time I said something like this about bunting I was damn near run off the thread.

To me it just depends on who is up and if there are zero outs.

Altuve, Yordan, Tucker don't need to bunt. Anybody else I'm fine with and it needs to be with zero outs if anybody does.

Entirely possible.

But you're not wrong.

important game tonight

not going to get back to .500 by losing series

interesting to see if Dubon starts again
W
7:22a, 5/2/24
speaking of Yordan...

only 11 walks in 133 plate appearances

behind his usual walk rate
W
7:27a, 5/2/24
same for Bregman

only 10 walks in 117 plate appearances

Yordan is having a down year for his standards. Wonder if something is up or he's just slumping a bit. Can't remember a 30 game stretch for him where his OPS is less than .800

this is a crazy stat
Farmer1906

I wouldn't worry about Yordant too much. He's chasing at a slightly higher rate, but making contact at the same or better in and out of the zone. He's seeing fewer meatballs and more on the edge. Give credit to the pitchers a little bit. But ultimately Yordan is still hitting the absolute piss out of the ball. 93% in Exit Velo, 93% in Barrel %, 88% Hard Hit%, 99% in xSLG, 94% xBA, & 98% xwOBA. His problem is hitting it at people or to the wrong part of the ballpark. He has the 5th largest gap in wOBA vs xwOBA, 2nd largest gap between SLG & xSLG. He's hit 6 balls >100 MPH that traveled 365+ for outs. He's going to be fine.

Bregman... its probably time to worry. Bregman has never been in a high exit velo guy, even when he hit 40 HRs. But his velo is down and his batted ball profile sinks. GB% is the highest of his career and his PU% is more than double last year. If those are up then it means Flyball & Linedrives are way down. He's never been a huge barrel guy, but those are down. More weak contact. More chase. Nothing great to report on him.

I've been ready for the Bregman is offensively mid at best conversation for a while now.

I used to love bregman during his **** talking years. He had a swagger. I don't see that anymore with him. Haven't seen it in a year or so.

getting married and having a kid did him in.

2024 Bregman is to Espada what 2023 Abreu was to Dusty

Massive handicap and there's nowhere to put the guy. You just plug him in and keep chugging along and pray he figures it out

At least he walks at the end of the year. We were still on the hook for 2 years 39M for Abreu at the end of last year

I'm just not sure what say about Bregman. It seems he is in full decline mode unless he decides to start juicing or something. If the ball isn't leaving the bat with authority, any amount of "figuring it out" would be based on lots of good fortune.

I still like having Bregman if/when the time comes for a postseason run.
