I don't really understand your question? How does flying to CDG impact a decision to carry on or check a bag? Always carry on if you can. Avoid checking bags if at all possible. If it's not possible to avoid checking a bag, then check a bag and don't worry about it.

Are you traveling alone?
Are you going for work or pleasure?
How long is the duration of your trip?
Are you under any time constraints on Departure or Arrival?
Do you plan to bring anything back - souvenirs? Auto parts for the Citroen you're restoring?

I avoid checking bags on Air France and at CDG with an absolute passion. There are just way too many unannounced strikes - especially by the baggage handlers - to take a chance. One time we couldn't even land at CDG because the baggage handlers were on strike and lying in the runway...fun times.

I don't see why you would even consider checking if you are able to carry on. Wife and I just did 10 days in Europe with carry on and I won't ever check bags again.
