I'm going to be buying a used boat on Monday or Tuesday from an individual. He still owes money on the boat. What do I need to do to make sure everything is done correctly and title for the boat, outboard motor, and trailer are all conveyed to me. I will be paying cash (should I use cashiers check or just a personal check). What do I need to do to make sure their lien is paid off? What forms from state do I need to fill out?

Once you figure out a trustworthy way to pay him, he'll pay off the loan and he'll get the title.
Then you need to go to your local parks and wildlife office to get a new title. You will have to sign it and they will warn you bith that if you misrepresent the sales price you can be charged with a felony, then you'll pay the 6.25% tax on whatever the sales price is the boat is
Then you have to do the same thing fir the trailer at the dmv

Did you take the boat for a test drive?
Did you look in the compartments and bays for leaks?
When you get out of the water and pull the plug did water come out?
Does the bilge, live wells, horn, lights, trim, blower, fire extinguisher(current) all work?
Was it winterized?
Last time impeller, oil, lower unit oil changed?
Need title for boat, motor and trailer, if an Outboard.
Trailer registered?
Tags current on trailer and boat?
