The world in 1948 is becoming more polarized and divided than ever before, with several US atomic tests in the Pacific, new economic forces in play in Germany and several communist coups in Eastern Europe. The Soviets attempt to force the West from Berlin through use of a physical blockade that inadvertently inspires a dramatic western rescue via the Berlin Airlift. And Truman's order to actively investigate and remove potential communist influences inside the US government sparks a new "Red Scare".
