With the Korean War in the rear-view mirror, day to day battles of the Cold War continue. A conflict arises at home between the news media and Senator Joseph McCarthy, a man who was not afraid to name names. War ends in Indochina, at least for the moment, with a Viet Minh victory over France in Vietnam. Dirty tricks by the CIA in Guatemala lead to the overthrow of a democratically elected government in that Central American nation. Hostile fire erupts in the Taiwan Strait between communist and nationalist Chinese forces. And an atom-powered American submarine now prowls the Seven Seas.
