He does not come from an A&M family, although he brother is enrolling as a freshman in the fall. He does have a lot of friends at A&M and was unhappy at TCU by all accounts.
If true, the 2b angle is interesting. He played C growing up, moved to OF in high school when he was behind an older player who went on to also play in college, and then moved back to C his senior season. Was expected to compete at C at TCU but had back issues. I don't know if he has a shot at C at A&M and really, he lacks the arm to play there anymore, but he is not built like a prototypical OF. He can play LF or DH in college, but if he wants to play beyond, he needs to do so as a 2b. Based on what I know of him, he's never played there, however.
Based on size and position, he likely wasn't going to be a high draft pick next year, so maybe the best thing for him was to transfer, sit a year while working on 2b game, and then see how that works out for Sr. season. If 2b works, he's improved his draft stock; if it doesn't, he still plays LF or DH for A&M and is happier than he was at TCU.
Regardless, tireless worker and great, great hitter.
