Its a tack driver. Have taken Whitetail up to 150 yds (Hill Country) and Antelope at 250+ (New Mexico).

Same. It's my favorite whitetail gun.

Some have said the new Tikkas are 1:8 barrels, but this, and all the specs on their website for the T3x series, are 1:10 barrels. Anyone have insight to this?

I've owned a Remington 700 BDL 243 for 46 years. It was a great gun as a teenager. At some point in my 30's and 40's I occasionally pined for a 30-06, but once I hit 50 I was glad I didn't. Still a tack driver and plenty lethal for the range I prefer, 200 yards or less.

Like several others, I have a Remington 700 (though I am an lol poor and mine is an ADL not the BDL) in .243 that I have had for 44 or 45 years. Had the same rifle in .270 but it kicked more than I cared for and always wanted something with less recoil. The .270 was stolen in a burglary when we were on our honeymoon so I replaced it with the .243 once we got the insurance money.

Most of the deer I have shot have been 50 yards to 125 yards and I have no need for a larger caliber. I head shoot or neck shoot most of the deer I've taken. I have an itch to get another rifle but haven't decided yet what I want to get.

Another Tikka T3 (lite) owner here in 243. It's also a less than 200 yard rifle for me. It drops the deer and pigs here in Texas I use it for. I use a 95 or 100 grain "hollow point" bullet and I've never tracked an animal more than 25 yards. I really like the adjustable trigger. Would recommend

My first rifle was a .243…. No really it was! REM 788 that I got in 1980 for Christmas from Sears. Still have the Tasco scope that came on it. Gun has killed more deer than anything I own.

Had a 788 in 6mm Rem. for 40 years. Got it for Christmas in '72 when I was 15. My sister-in-law shoots it now. Was told by a gunsmith that Remington quit making them because they were more accurate than their flagship 700 model and sold for around $100. Very accurate gun if you can find one.

People on rokslide have bought 1:8 twist 243s. There are 22-250s with 1:8 barrels too. Seems like there's a mix out in the wild.

Sounds like you're set on a .243. Nothing wrong with that. Great round. Another option would be to add a muzzle brake to any rifle you already own. I added a APA micro brake to a .300 win mag and it shoots like a dream.

Mine has about 150 rnds through it. The first 20 were for sighting in and getting me used to it when I was 9. The next 100+ were on deer. (I grew up on a MLD place where my job as to kill does) The last ones were sadly probably its last. The scope went bad and then it started discharging when the safety was taken off. Will still keep it though for the memories.

I will eventually get it done. I don't really invest much time in hunting deer anymore. (When I do, it is with a .270) My son has claimed my .308 and that is what he uses when we go out. I strictly enforce the, "you shoot'em you clean them rule!"

For sure! For some reason I thought he was wanting a 6.5 Creed. Must have confused this with another thread on another site that I was following. I need to read more carefully.

To each his own, but my dad had one of these in .243 and I ****ing hated that thing. It spent some time with me and I put probably 100 rounds through it. Dad ended up not liking it either and it became one of only a few guns he's ever sold.

I have an x caliver spiral fluted and threaded .243 barrel, I'd part with. 18" and less than 50 rounds down the pipe. Stainless Steel, beautiful.
