I feel like they only have the match official take a look when they blew it. I can't remember the last time i saw them go to the screen and stick with the call. They should either be looking at more calls (and some stand) or get rid of having the guy go to the screen entirely. If it always means it is getting overturned, it's just a waste of time to show him.

Yes, but it used to not ultimately matter. It only matters now because they've introduced a method to correct some poor calls. Not all, but some, which is pretty annoying on its own.

Well we can at least agree on your last point. The inconsistent application of the technology is frustrating.

Drives me crazy that VAR isn't used in GK/Corner decisions… it's already a stoppage in play, it's an easy thing for Refs/ARs to miss - especially when it's on the other side of the goal from the AR, and it either sets up or denies a scoring opportunity … so it's kind of a big deal to get right.

And yeah, I'm angry because my team got scored on in a corner that the other team shouldn't have had, and the mistake was made obvious by the fantastic modern TV production crews we have.

This says a ton about PGMOL… as many have said for a long time: VAR works well in other places…

So Xavi says he's going to quit. Team starts playing well. The club convinces him to stay. Now Laporta wants to fire him. Barca are a mess.

It is really bizarre. It's not like they've been playing bad lately, and the comments basically just said they can't spend and get everyone they want; it was hardly inflammatory. Let me put it this way: it wasn't the Antonio Conte press conference.

That man is so gone. He's stubborn so he'll last a while. But at some point in the next year or two, he'll either hit a bad run and get fired or eventually get fed up, tell everyone to go eff themselves, and walk out.

A funny moment in Scotland. In December, Celtic were letting the league slip away. They had a bad loss to hearts at home and the fans booed Santa during halftime. After finding their form back in the last months of the season, they won the league and let Santa have his redemption on trophy day…

Well so much for that supposed drama. Sorry Arsenal.

Awful last day to the season. No relegation fight. Man Dhabi with another easy run in to secure another plastic trophy. Bundesliga kicked the EPL's butt for entertainment value this year.

Pitch invasion for City? This would be like rushing the court when MJ won his sixth title.

Today the Tottenham - Sheffield United official was called to the screen about a possible red, but didn't give it - though he did show it to the player as an apparent warning, which I've never seen before.

Well… that's pretty bizarre. "I'm not giving you a red, but come look at this and see how I should be giving you a red." Has to be a last day oddity.

I honestly think both Barca and Bayern may be biding their time till he's a free agent and they can woo him back. If both of those whiff on their coaching searches this year, it's going to be a heck of a battle next summer to keep/sign him.

I look forward to him being berhalter'w replacement.

Come on pep. Try a real challenge, not all this having the most money and best players business. You're probably just like coach pop. Awesome when you have the GOATs as players. Suck when you dont.

With yesterday's title, City moves to 10 top flight titles, 4th all time. They previously won in '36 and'68 and now have won 8 of the last 13. They've passed Everton with 9 titles and are only 3 behind Arsenal. Any bets on if City catches them this decade or do the wheels fall off due to sanctions/Pep leaving?
Dre_00
9:42a, 5/20/24
I don't know that the wheels will fall off but it'll be hard to catch them this decade. They'd have to win 3 of the next 5 and there's likely to be at least a little fall back w/o Pep plus it's entirely possible that Arsenal adds a title of their own between now and then.

Just when it looks like things are turning the corner, new Chelsea takes a play out of old Chelsea's playbook.

Simply lovely.

Sometimes I put on a tin-foil hat and think Boehly is a CIA plant.

I'm not imaginative to speculate as to what Russian stuff they're trying to investigate or why they needed to run Chelsea to do it - but I do like to imagine that as a side-gig, they're trying real hard to slowly burn the club to the ground so there's nothing for Roman to return to if in the future courts determine that the confiscation was illegal.

Dare I say that Boehly is doing for American owners what...the Glazers did for American owners. You didn't fire him in December when you were 12th but you did fire him in May when you finished 6th and he ended the season 5 points out of a Champions League spot. In his first season.

What a catastrophically stupid club and stupid owner.

I don't know what the problem is. I like the new guy over the old guy.
