First Alaska Trip - Recommendations

I am taking a cruise through Alaska this August. This will be my first time up there and I would appreciate if anyone has any must do/see/eats in any of the following towns.

Sitka
Juneau
Icy Strait Point
Ketchikan

Do you get to do much while on the Cruise? My assumption was that they always give a few excursion/activity options when you dock in town for the day.

We enjoyed a helicopter ride to the glacier and dog sleds when we were in Juneau.

Read about Russian settlements.

which cruise line? NCL has built its own docks outside of some cities so the transportation time between ship and port cuts down the amount of time you'll have.

Juneau - helicopter tour w glacier landing.
Ketch - hired a local float plane to tour the fjords and landed on a lake to catch mountain trout

We are not cruisers, but will be in AK in August, with one day in Juneau and plan to stay a couple of hours at the Red Dog Saloon as soon as it opens. If you can get in, it is worth it.

Yup. Wrangell Straights are pretty fantastic.

Here are some ideas for Juneau and Ketchikan. I've never stopped at Icy Strait Point and the only excursion I've done in Sitka wasn't that great. The Bayview Pub in Sitka is good. I make it a point to eat fish and chips in every Alaska town I visit. Leaving Sitka is cool. I've seen a lot of whales in Sitka Sound near Mt. Edgecumbe/Kruzof Island.
