Decided to tack New River Gorge onto an upcoming DC/Shenandoah NP trip

Any experience/recommendations with any of the rafting outfits

We used Ace Adventure Resort. It's a big operation but was efficient. The guide was pretty cool and while we were around other boats on the water, it didn't feel crowded. I liked watching the others go thru the rapids before us and turn around and see if the guys behind us made it. . We didn't do anything else they had to offer, just the rafting.

Be sure to do the tethered walk under the bridge.

Ace is a good group.

You should also look into the low water inflatable kayak trips on the Gauley. It is only class 3 or so when the dams aren't releasing so it isn't too scary

I did the New once at 16 or 17 feet on the gauge. It looked like the ocean. My kayak was quite small.
