Post covid, has anyone noticed a dramatic decrease in eye irritation from cutting onions?

I wish. I was that many years old when I learned that smell had nothing to do with onion eye reaction. I still had no sense of smell at all the first time I cooked after covid, and the onions did their thing just the same.

I can confirm that this has not happened to me. Last night's stroganoff did a number on them.

I have learned that I cannot rub my eyes after cutting onions, just like I cannot eat hot wings and then go to the restroom without washing my hands. (Don't ask me how I know.)

On the rare time when I'm slicing an onion that wasn't just taken out of the refrigerator, it always catches me by surprise.
Onions almost never bother me. I keep them in the refrigerator and so when I slice onions, it's not much different than slicing carrots or potatoes or squash.Rubble said:
Nope…they still kill me every time
