Had a Spaten Optimator in Fredericksburg on Fri after Thanksgiving.

Damn good beer!

Optimator is so good. It'll sneak up from behind and knock you out if you're not careful though.

After the 'worst beer you've had' thread, I decided to pick up a sixer of Big Flats from Walgreens and see if it lived up to the billing some of you guys gave it.
Not good, but much more drinkable than Miller Chill, Bud Light Lime, and Shiner Smokehouse.

Suggestion for Karbach:

1. Pay Charlie Murphy a fee for using his image.
2. Name the beer "Darkness!"

that lager recipe can't be finished...way too bitter

Huh?

Don't think I've ever had a bitter lager before...so it didn't taste right to me.

You guys had the SA Centenni-Ale yet? I bought one dark and one light at Spec's downtown last week. Have only tried the dark so far, but it was decidedly meh. Very weak effort IMO.

Picked one of these beauties though, have yet to sample. Been loving Deschutes and Victory beers of late...

Also just got me one of the Clutch LoF beers, will enjoy directly! Vamanos vamanos!

Petrol saying they have a limited amount of Deschutes Stoic 22oz bombers for sale tonight

I'm pretty sure the dark centinniale is just Saint A amber or brown. The light is said to be Weedwacker, each just with different labels.

Shows what I know...honestly that was my first thought "This tastest like a weak version of the brown ale." But then again it's been a while since I've had the brown.

Oh well, looking forward to the Deschutes and the LoF Clutch!

Had the No Label 'El Hefe' at the Texans Grille at lunch ... better than the Back Wit-O, a decent hefe (cloudy as shit, but thats fine) ... real smooth, not too fruity.

For the Deschutes fans - HEB at Buffalo Spdwy and Bissonnet has about 10 cases of the 2011 Abyss. Price is $11.99.

Southern Star seasonal 'Le Mort Vivant' sounds interesting

http://blog.chron.com/beertx/2011/11/weekend-beercast-grab-a-southern-star-le-mort-vivant/#1869-1

quote:
Jeff Hamm, the young brewer behind Walloon, pays homage to traditional French brewing with this beer, the second seasonal offering from Southern Star. We tasted it last night, and Hamm has hit this one out of the park, as well. Among the terms used to describe the brew, all accurate, were: Delicate, subtle, malty, rustic, with a hint of sweet pear or apples. It’s a brew that’s delicious cold and gets better and more interesting as it warms.

quote:
“This beer, to me, if anything, it’s rustic,” said Fougeron, who is clearly and rightfully pleased with the way the brew turned out.

Hamm said the beer was kept aside for more than a month, a further commitment to tradition for a rapidly growing brewery where space is at a premium. “The difference between weeks 3 and 4 is remarkable,” he said. “The flavors really come together.”

Southern Star made a limited batch of Le Mort Vivant, and Fougeron said he expects the stash to sell out quickly. It began showing up in some bars this week and by the second week of December it should be available on store shelves in cans.

Boo this man!

Dont worry, though, I'm hoping I can set up a Russian River tasting soon, as in before end of year, as I plan to use January as a drying out month before the February drinking trips out west.

It is VERY tasty. Had both this and the Real Ale Saison, both are very good.

Definately in for a Russian River if you get that going. Ill keep an eye on if any places will have any other brewery dinners upcoming. Rockwells has been good about setting up some regular ones, think ill try and do one of the next ones out there.

I'd be IN for a Russian River tasting, that place is the schizzzzz. Last time we went there we took home a whole case! Love that joint, when you're tired of wine (or not) in the Napa/Sonoma area, it's worth your time to take a trip there. Amazing sours!

On another note I had my Deschutte's "Hop in the Dark" and it was badass!
