I've seen Widmer KGB Russian IS's for $7 a 6'er. Granted, that is an absolute steal.

I have a woody right now thinking about pumpkinator.

I will absolutely empty the shelves of this beer everywhere I see it.

I'm not really the biggest Arnie fan out there. Nor do I like pumpkin beer all that much.

But DR9 was nails. NAILS.

Perfect night cap last night. A beast at 10%. Not for the faint of heart.

After the recommendation from CATAGBQ04, I had to try a Sailing Satan... waaaay better with Stone IPA, sooooo good

Except that would actually be a Satan Santa or something, since Stone IPA has nothing to do with a boat.

Maybe we call it a 'Scrooge' or a 'Grinch'? Either way it's amazing and I will be buying more Christmas Ale before it's gone.

DFH Squall IPA was nails...not as good as their 90 min IPA, but up there. Very smooth for an IPA with a nice little kick to it.
Killed the whole bomber in about an hour and a half

also, made a few purchases at specs yesterday.

I cannot tell you how excited I am to find this. I'm a huge fan of DFH and their "liquid time capsules," so this was a quality find for me.
here's a summary and video explanation of the beer from Sam:

Also saw a bomber of Ovila Saison I just had to try. Have it sitting in the fridge next to the Ovila Abbey Dubbel. Haven't tried either one yet, but have heard great things. Planning on getting all 3 in the series and then trying them all at the same time.

true, but I'm always hesitant of any new IPA I try.
I love them, but about half of em give me a headache before I finish a pint.

I'm the same way with any brew that is too hoppy. I get instant headaches.

i hit up no label again, good stuff. Plus they have people selling food to stave off too much drunkeness.

wonder why SA doesn't do the same thing.

Back to School Drive at the Brewery

Here's another way to get that warm and fuzzy feeling while having a beer. We're talking about how good it feels when you do something as nice as donating school supplies for kids that need them. On Wednesday, August 3, we are teaming up with our State Representative Jessica Farrar to host a Back to School drive for needy families at the brewery. Cost of admission is a new or gently used children's backpack and some school supplies. Then hang out and enjoy some tasty refreshing beverages. Consider them the fruits of your labor.

Here are the details:
Date: Wednesday, August 3
Taps open from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (remember you can bring food to snack on)
Admission: Bring one new or gently used children's backpack
AND
at least one of the following items:
8 pack of markers
24 pack of crayons
Large pack of pencils
Large package of spiral notebooks

And the Santo update from the newsletter...

quote:
The first batch was brewed yesterday and is busy fermenting. The style is a black Kölsch. Don't be disturbed if you aren't familiar with this style. We weren't either before we came up with it. More details to follow.

From the St. Arnold newsletter:" enjoy our now 50% quieter beer hall!)"

That is the only problem I have had....too loud.

Went Friday and noticed they added maroon (whoop!) soundproofing insulation panels to the ceiling and it's awesome! You can actually carry on a conversation without yelling.

Just cracked this open, man this is really good. Like a cross between a bock and a dunkelweiss. It's straight from germany right off the back off the duff distributor truck.

I haven't read this whole thread, but there is a new brewery opening in the Heights called Yard Sale Brewing. They're going to have samples at White Linen Night this weekend.

Another new brewery opening up over by the new soccer stadium.

Just picked up 4 bottles of Deschutes Black Butter XXIII porter at HEB. There were only a handful but I've heard Specs had some as well.

Also, Jim Koch of Sam Adams will be at Flying Saucer and Specs tomorrow. Rumor has it that there will be some Utopia.

Anybody been out to Katy for a No Label tour? Advice?

I'm thinking about hitting it up Saturday, recently tried out the El Hefe and Pale Horse and was pleasantly surprised......
