They had Utopia tastings at Specs, too, but Koch was so late getting there that I had to leave before they broke it out. My buddy stayed and picked me up a bottle though, so not all is lost.

From Chron:

Breaking news: The first 11,000-gallon batch of Santo, the recently announced black Kölsch from Saint Arnold Brewing Co., had to be dumped because of problems that arose when scaling the beer up from test production.

The brewery says a new, smaller batch with a tweaked recipe is being brewed today this week.

But it will be at least six weeks before the beer could hit the market.

Santo, a variation on the best-selling Fancy Lawnmower, was expected to go on sale Sept. 1. Instead, the release looks more likely early to mid-October at the earliest.

St A announced they are delaying the release on Santo.

http://www.facebook.com/notes/saint-arnold-brewing-company/were-delaying-the-release-of-santo-and-heres-why/10150272055258008

quote:
We regret to announce that we are delaying the release of our newest beer, Santo. After brewing a 10 gallon test brew several months ago that we were enthusiastic about, we scaled up the recipe and recently brewed our standard 3,700 gallon batch. In fact, we have three such batches in the fermenters right now. After filtering a batch this week and getting it ready for packaging we tasted it. It was good, but it was missing that spark that separates a good beer from a great beer. So we are dumping the over 11,000 gallons of beer we have in the tanks.

We are brewing another batch tomorrow with a series of recipe tweaks. We will taste this in two to three weeks. If we are excited about the results, we will release it then (or more likely, about three weeks later so we can brew some additional batches). If we again do not believe it is a world class beer, we'll continue tweaking. We apologize for this issue. We would rather experience the embarrassment of delaying the release than release something that isn't the best beer we can brew.

Enjoyed the heck out of some SA Oktoberfest last weekend with the TexAgs crew.

picked some New Belgium Hoptober today....so freaking good. Convinced this is going to be in steady rotation at our tailgates and my fridge this fall.

I love their beers, but lately their seasonal releases haven't been up to par. Hope this one is good.

Having a real ale morgul ale at rockwells. Sold in half pint, for good reason it's 17% abv
it's a porter aged in makers mark barrels. Holy crap it almost just tastes like straight whisky, but without the bite.

Anyone hitting up the craft brew festival in Galveston this weekend?

I'm guessing it'll be pretty sweet but I can't swing it.

I'm hoping someone goes and files a trip report here.
