9-9 in conference is pretty mediocre on Evans part. Team should be better than that. Was not impressed with what I saw yesterday.
Well, that 9-9 record needs to be taken in context of playing in such a difficult conference.
At 9-9, we were 15th in the NCAA's RPI update yesterday. The team immediately in front of us in the standings at 8-7 is Florida- they were 2nd in the NCAA's RPI.
Our conference schedule so far has gone:
#5 Missouri (9-6 in the SEC)
#36 South Carolina (8-10 in the SEC)
#3 Georgia (9-6 in the SEC)
#74 Arkansas (3-12 in the SEC)
#16 Kentucky (10-5 in the SEC)
#11 Tennessee (11-4 in the SEC)
With #2 Florida (8-7 in the SEC) and #23 Auburn (6-9 in the SEC) on the table. We've been a step behind the top dogs, for sure, and I'm a little disappointed we lost the series at South Carolina.
We're still pretty close. Its frustrating, to feel close but far away yet again, but Florida at home and Auburn left, this particular season isn't quite over.
Two series wins would be ideal and maybe set us up for a late run to host a super regional via a top 8 seed or favorable 9-16 seed. 3-3 split would still keep the club in a pretty decent position to host a regional, especially if 2 of the wins come against Florida.
