Luka playing so dumb

That sequence says it all. Coffee with a 3 after Luka missed an easy one after PG made a 3 with great defense by PJ. Just not our night.

Zubac playing like Shaquille o' Neal and making gafford his *****. gafford has 0 total rebounds in this game.

Outscored them in the 3rd. Hopefully we never see anything like that abomination in the 1st half the rest of the playoffs.

Ty Lue is a superior coach to Kidd. Lue called a TO when we cut the lead to 22 in the middle of the 2nd quarter and they immediately stopped the "bleeding."Grapesoda2525 said:

There have been multiple times in this game when THJ just has an issue grabbing the ball...
Meanwhile Mann going off... The role player discrepancy has been noticeable...

As bad as we played, the clippers made over 50% of their 3 pointers today. Maybe even without Leonard, we picked a good game to lay an egg because the clippers probably aren't going to make half their 3's or better the rest of the series.

The ESPN broadcasts are just generally inferior to TNT. Reggie Miller isn't great, but he's much preferable to RJ or Dorris Burke or listening to Mark Jones. Hopefully Tuesday is a TNT game.PatAg said:

Welp flush that one. Outscored them by 14 in the 2nd half. Still feel good about winning this series.

It is kind of amazing how Luka was +3 in 42 minutes and Dallas was -16 in the other 6 minutes. That is the entire story of the game. At least one more guy besides Luka and Kyrie need to step up and do something.

They definitely got more then enough wide open shots that they collectively clanked or air balled.Guitarsoup said:

And literally any team in the league could have had Russ or Harden. They were such toxic contracts that Philly/Lakers would have taken anything to get off them. And Russ basically signed the vet min to play for the Clippers. We had $12m this off season, we (or anyone) could have easily acquired him.
i mean they sold everything to get PG and Kawhi. If you hooked Steve Balmer up to a lie detector and asked "would you do that trade again knowing what you know about SGA, would you still do it?" There's no shot he says 'Yes.'South Platte said:

SGA
Galli (later traded for a 2nd rounder)
Pick that became Jalen Williams
Pick that became Tre Mann
Pick that became Jaime Jacquez (pick traded before draft for 2025 Miami 1st and two seconds)
Clippers 2024 1st round pick (unprotected)
Clippers 2025 1st round pick (unprotected right to swap)
Clippers 2026 1st round pick (unprotected)
That is so insane.

I think it flustered the Mavs that the Clippers ran their offense through Zubac the first like 5 or 6 possessions and it was working. Luka getting hunted in the PnR is nothing new and was what every team tries to do, but Gafford being big boy'd in the paint was not something I thought would happen. Our entire defensive philosophy hinges on protecting the paint and limiting teams at the rim, if we can't do THAT and we allow open corner 3s…that's a recipe for disaster.
We either need Luka to commit to giving max effort on D or we need Gafford/Lively to match Zubac's physicality.

Yeah Gafford not holding up against Zubac was a little surprising but I think Lively and Maxi especially did well against him.
The defense in general got better in the second half and was pretty good with Maxi in.

I also think it was very strange that we just came out content to run the offense through everyone, rather than have it run through Luka and Kyrie, which had been working so well for 2 months. It was almost as if Luka and Kyrie were totally flustered, which in turn flustered all our supporting players. Those guys have way too much big moment experience to have been flustered like that. Just seems like they wrote this one off as an easy win once Kawhi was confirmed out and the fact that a Kawhi-less team dominated them early sent them into a tailspin.

Luka looked like a shell of himself. This is the most concerning thing going in to next game. If Luka wants to shoot 3s all game and completely neglect getting to the rim and either getting layups or alley oops, then we are probably screwed.
So many times Luka would get in to the paint and basically pass up a short runner or a path to a layup in order to pass out and reset the offense. It was so frustrating watching it at the time because he wasn't playing his game at all. It's a bit nerve wracking that our fate for this series basically comes down to Luka's mentality and we don't know what we are going to get.

Ya the offense was infinitely the most worrying aspect (lol obviously the 8pt 2nd qtr is the best stat for that). Very out of character performance from the Mavs especially since Kawhi wasn't even on the court.
