So if this turns out to have legs, what kind of penalty are we looking at here? Any way this could result in sanctions for the program, or would it just be suspension for Johnny? How long of a suspension would this kind of thing bring?

Why? If they find him guilty, they will vacate every win we have to that point in the season, anyway.

It's ESPN for F sake.

They report news from other sources and attribute it to their own guy as "reporting xyz."

This is the same ESPN that was giddy in reporting the initial "SEC SAYS NO TO TEXAS A&M" story, repleat with mention of how "weak" we were in the B12, etc.

The same "call your local provider" ESPN.

They have a hard on for us for a variety of reasons, not limited to the lhn fiasco.

Plus it's a slow news cycle day..

Plus they started the top ten plays of the month show last night with "and now, what you have all been waiting for, more Johnny Manziel stories, kidding."

They would report the size of a JFF growler if he'd let them look.

This "story", if true, which I very strongly doubt it is, would be their Watergate.

Multiple witnesses who all witnessed agreement, autographs, and payment? A cashed check that says "for autographs"?

Even if he did it for free, signing a huge batch that can be traced (because all signatures can be) is automatically going to trigger an investigation if someone notices (and there are schools out there that have compliance people looking for this type of stuff). It doesn't matter if he says he did or didn't take money, the NCAA has to investigate it. That is a distraction that should have never been there to begin with. The arrogance of singing stuff by the batch is troublesome if true.

Sounds like bullcrap to me. What motive would a kid from a wealthy family have to earn a little money on the side at the risk of derailing his college football career? Let's see, play my cards right for another season and start earning millions upon millions of dollars...or...get $5,000 right now for some autographs. I just can't believe Johnny would be that dumb. This will blow over because there's no proof, but, the mudslinging from our rivals obviously won't. They can't stand us having the nation's premier quarterback and also a decent kid, so they'll do anything they can to either run him off or make him out to be a crook.

You guys are missing the bigger picture here. We shouldn't be worrying about possible compensation he received for signing these pictures.

What we should be worried about is what else they'll uncover during the investigation when they start pulling up his paper trail.

So...this happens in January...it's August and there is no proof of any wrong doing but on the first day of practices ESPN releases "there's no evidence of this at all but by gosh it's serious!"
