I watched Ryne Birk last night at Wolfe Stadium (SA Missions vs CC Hooks). Ryne went 2 for 4 I think, with 2 hits in his first 2 at bats.

Unfortunately for Ryne, CC Hooks is owned by the Astros, so Altuve is ahead of Ryne at second base.

The starting pitcher for the CC Hooks was Forrest Whitley. He looks to be the real deal. I expect him to be promoted to the Astros MLB team this year. He threw 96 mph all night with offspeed stuff usually 85..... he is a very tough pitcher with several offspeed choices. He made several hitters look silly.

These minor leaguers can hit 92 mph pitches all day long, but 96 is somehow a very different story.

Jason Jester-AA San Antonio Missions: Had a 2.31 ERA in April, 1.65 in May and June's currently sits at 22.65.
On the year he is 2-1 with a 4.73 ERA and 3 blown saves in 3 chances. I think he was on the path back to AAA before June hit.

Busy day for Ags in the MLB. Naquin and Wilson are back off DL. Both of them, Minter, Wacha, and Stripling all played.

He's repeating short-season low A. His season started last week.

And he just got promoted to A ball on Friday and joins Brigham Hill at Hagertown.

Hill has been in Florida for probably the last 6 weeks rehabbing a strained muscle but did make it back to
Hagerstown this weekend.

Minter and Wilson both pitched scoreless innings in relief last night with Wilson picking up a hold.

Andrew Vinson joined Mikey Reynolds in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball playing for the Sussex County Miners.

Minter picked up his 4th save of the year vs the Yankees.

I saw Pennington last night at Round Rock(Tex). He seems to be struggling a little at the plate hitting about .180 in 45 AB so far. Last night he was 0-3 with a HBP and a run scored. Fielding(2B) was good except for one throw playing the shift up the middle which the 1B bailed him out with a tag on the runner.

Nice to see I wasn't the only one sweating my ass off.

Last night, Ross Stripling pitched a gem of a game pitching 6 strong innings for the Dodgers beating the Angels and raising his record to 7-2.

His 7 wins are a team best and he is getting consideration for being named to the NL All-Star team.

Speaking of Cliff Pennington, I recently came upon this article. Its not new, but it is interesting with regards to how he did pitching when given a shot.

Alex Wilson visited the Aggie weight room this morning and talked to our kids. The Tigers play the Astros starting Friday and he had an off day so he is in CS visiting.

Surprised Moroney didn't give MILB a shot. I think he would have had the opportunity.

Michael Helman is off to a modest 5 for 8 start for the Elizabethton Twins with 4 runs and 2 stolen bases. Good enough for a .625 batting average and a 1.475 OPS.

Moving on up to Cedar Rapids.. (Class A)

The move from Rookie League to Class A hasn't slowed Helman down.
